ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!

The BREAD & BUTTER – tradeshow for selected brands, which took place last week from 19-21 January 2011 in the historic Berlin-Tempelhof airport for the fourth time, is once again able to report fantastic results. Over an area of more than 70,000 m², around 600 brands, labels and designers from the Street- and Urbanwear segment presented their A/W 2011 collections to an international professional audience.

Karl-Heinz Müller, President of BREAD & BUTTER GmbH reports: “We have broken all records with this edition of BREAD & BUTTER: more visitors from even more countries and many extremely satisfied buyers. There was no sign of any financial crisis here.”

BREAD & BUTTER presented itself as even stronger and more international than before and with its “Absolute” motto, the event reflected the uniqueness and creativity of the entire industry. For three days and three nights, Berlin-Tempelhof Airport became an international meeting point for business, communication and inspiration.

Karl-Heinz Müller: “My belief has been confirmed once more: the return to Berlin was an absolutely spot-on decision. Berlin is the place to be and has increased its profile and established itself internationally as ’the capital of Street- and Urbanwear’.”

B&B Grand Opening Party at the Absolute Cotton Club
3,500 guests celebrated in the style of the wild and wicked Golden Twenties at the magnificent B&B Grand Opening Party, which traditionally takes place on the evening before the first trade show day. Inspired by the popular sport of that era, a boxing ring, where a number of fights took place, was the focus of everyone’s attention. Rico Müller from Germany won the IBO Welterweight World Championship against Nestor Faccio from Uruguay. Further highlights of the evening at the “Absolute Cotton Club” included impressive Burlesque performances as well as a rousing live concert by swing band “Cherry Poppin’ Daddies” from the US.

Highlights of Absolute BREAD & BUTTER Berlin
The strong, long-standing dedication and new and creative brand presentations from all B&B exhibitors deserve special attention. And with “Private Viewing”, G-Star presented a new fashion show concept to showcase its collection to a professional audience in an intimate, private setting.

The L.O.C.K. area in Hangar 7 offered a strong, well-balanced and high quality portfolio of heritage brands, and was able to register high numbers of visitor traffic throughout the whole event, as well as receiving excellent feedback. Its strength was reinforced by presentations from Nigel Cabourn, who showed his global Master Collection for the first time in one of the spacious showrooms, and Woolrich, who reflected upon their 180 years of company history with a photo exhibition by Douglas Kirkland.

The denim industry’s renowned top designers and a small circle of invited guests met on the first day of the event for the traditional lunch at the B&B Business Club.

International trade visitor structure
The worldwide leading tradeshow for Street- and Urbanwear has once again registered increased numbers of visitors – in the run up to the show, the B&B Active Guest Management received more than 90,000 registrations from professional visitors, and the corresponding number of tickets was sent out to over 100 countries. During the three days of the event, a large number of additional new registrations was reported.

Karl-Heinz Müller: “We knew that the event would be very strong and international. The exhibitors are more than satisfied with their results, and are reporting a considerable increase in the number of international new customers and numerous order placements. Overall, nearly two thirds of our visitors came from abroad.”

This season, BREAD & BUTTER once again consciously refrains from providing information regarding total visitor numbers.

Comments
Overall, there has been a growth in visitor numbers. The increase was mainly due to the heightened international flair of the event. Higher numbers of German visitors were once again recorded. Noticeable was the distinctive rise in visitor numbers from Benelux, Russia and the Eastern European countries, as well as from Great Britain. There were also numerous visitors from Switzerland and Austria this time around. The figures were more or less on the same level as the previous year. The number of Scandinavian visitors was particularly strong with an increase of over 50%.

10 years BREAD & BUTTER
Karl-Heinz Müller is already looking towards the next event: “In summer 2011, we are celebrating our tenth anniversary, so we will of course be setting the bar even higher!” Reason enough to take a look back at an exciting decade and, at the same time, also the perfect occasion to celebrate in grand style! Traditionally, the BREAD & BUTTER opening takes place the evening before the first day of the trade show so we would be delighted to welcome you to Berlin to kick off the celebrations with us on 5 July 2011!

The upcoming BREAD& BUTTER will be taking place from 6-8 July 2011.

BREAD & BUTTER YOUNGSTARS
Save the date: BREAD & BUTTER YOUNGSTARS, the new international and independent kidswear platform of BREAD & BUTTER, will take place for the first time from 15-17 July 2011 at the historic Berlin-Tempelhof Airport.
